Lewis County’s Carlisle Lake is located near the town of Onalaska. It covers 20 surface acres, has shallow depths and lies at an elevation of 506 feet. The little lake was previously known as the Onalaska Mill Pond. Fish species include rainbow trout, brown trout, largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, pumpkinseed sunfish, and warmouth bass. I have fished this little lake a couple of times and caught both largemouth bass and crappie. Both species hit a top water Rapala. Prime bass habitat in this lake is limited to a few old stumps and lots of aquatic weeds.
Public access is available at the south end of the lake near the huge, tall, old, concrete smoke stack. There is a concrete boat launching ramp. No internal combustion engines are allowed on the lake. Most of the pond can be fished from the shoreline. Bob Johansen
