I don’t sniff my fish, and I “never sniff a gift fish”.The Quadfather wrote:That’s cool, Jakedogfish..
If you can smell the difference in some rivers you may have salmonid in you somewheres.

Re: Pollock in WA
Pollock, true cod and other bottom fish were once abundant in Puget Sound. They were wiped out by bottom trawling in the 80s and have never recovered.

Closing the river to Pinks does not make it Sport Fishing only.

Re: Well now here is an idea....
This is a Wdfw attempt to simplify there own job. They think they know more than the past biological studies that were modeled specifically for each lake. Does nothing to clear things up for the angler, unless the goal is to get less people to look at the regulations. I do like the removal of anti f...

Re: Tribal gil nets are in the water in MA 10
At the risk of fanning any flames, I see we are back to the tribes being mostly unaccountable, and the non tribal fishers being "bean counted", offered as fact rather than opinion. Allow me to present some actual facts, and I would appreciate hearing how they are incorrect. Commercial fisheries are...

Re: Tribal gil nets are in the water in MA 10
David A - a well thought out and much appreciated post. Jake Dogfish - not sure where you are getting the info that you are stating as facts - however the fact remains, (and yes I have this from a WDFW salmon fisheries biologist in MY family) that the tribes have been the only ones proposing a mora...

Re: Tribal gil nets are in the water in MA 10
That may be how it's supposed to work. Even a few years ago before Unsworth it was more of a team process between wdfw and the tribes. The current process at north of falcon is we present our fisheries to the tribes an they say "yes" or "no". They don't show us anything, and are the final authority ...

Green/duwamish Pinks are a interesting example of how fast runs can change under the right conditions. Runs were so small by the mid nineties that they did not even include them on the map in this Pink Salmon study: "Pink salmon apparently occurred historically in the Green/Duwamish River system in ...

Re: Breaking news: OPEN SEASON on Atlantic Salmon - is this real!?!?
Lummi tribe could not find a buyer, so they are paying the processor to take them. So the tribal netters are getting paid for the work. They should not be using gill nets, if they were not netting this area however they likely would be doing the same thing somewhere else. If they have already netted...

Re: Breaking news: OPEN SEASON on Atlantic Salmon - is this real!?!?
Spokey I hear you and have heard similar comments at other sites that this is not a big deal. It amazes me that fishermen would not be united on this issue. So much blame goes to nets, pinnepeds, habitat, harvest etc. Those were past concerns this is the present. There is no greater threat to the fu...

Re: Breaking news: OPEN SEASON on Atlantic Salmon - is this real!?!?
DFW clarified the regs, see link. Saltwater areas must be open for salmon to fish for them, and freshwater areas must be open for trout or salmon. Also, it's not as much as of a fishing bonanza as the Seattle Times article made it sound like. The company estimates only 4000-5000 fish escaped (not a...

Re: Breaking news: OPEN SEASON on Atlantic Salmon - is this real!?!?
The main problem is the farms in the first place. They are only allowed in high current areas so the pollution will go unnoticed. The antibiotics and freedom to experiment will likely lead to them finding what harms pacific salmon but not there drug filled fish. Every less wild pacific salmon is a n...

Re: Breaking news: OPEN SEASON on Atlantic Salmon - is this real!?!?
I wonder if that means area 9 and 8-2 are open for them as well. Lol. Really doubt it but one can be hopeful. Hope some of you put a hurting on these fish as they can causr havoc on our local stocks. Some of these fish carry disease for one and they can also be competition to our local stocks. It s...

I caught one twitching a jig once on the Green.
The ones I saw in the salt hugged the shorelines. Much like recently planted trout they stayed shallow and avoided open water.

Nice video!
I've caught some trout out of there. Looks like a great topwater bass lake. Lots of shallow habitat.
