Area 8-2 is never open for kings during the summer, only winter blackmouth. And yes, area 9 is more productive.HOOKEDONFISHING wrote:Thanks for the info. When you say fast 2.5mp 3 mph ? What size do you use 3.5 or 5 ? Or does it matter ?
Is area 9 a more productive area ?

Re: Lami Koke Rods for Baker Lake Socks?
I have hooked one sockeye on the white rod, and it felt slightly underpowered but manageable. I definitely liked it better than fighting them with my heavy glass composite rods that I use for chinook and coho. I also used the white rod for humpies out in the bay last year and it performed just fine.

Re: Izorline
It's good stuff. It has a much higher tensile strength than maxima, but it doesn't hold up to abrasion as well and it stretches a lot more. The stretch makes it extremely forgiving when fighting a fish. For spinning reels it is pretty tough to beat because it is extremely limp and casts about as goo...

Re: Downriggers
Can someone out there recommend a good manual downrigger for Chinook and Coho in Grays Harbor? My boat is a Lund Alaskan 1600 Tiller model. Honestly, most of the salmon fishing in grays harbor is done without downriggers, as it is fairly shallow. Most guys fish a cutplug herring behind an inline fl...

No. They don't plant sum runs in there. I beg to differ. Go check out the adult holding pond at the Wallace hatchery good sir. I beg to differ further. Go check the WDFW smolt planting report. There were exactly 0 summer runs planted in the Wallace in 2011 and 2012. I was up at the hatchery last we...

Re: Quantum Code? Bait cast reel
The code is a much different reel than the smoke. The code actually has some alright features for a less expensive baitcaster, but it doesn't have the super high precision bearings, the high quality drag, or a lot of the machined aluminum parts that the smoke has. It's a much lower quality reel. If ...

Re: June 1st Opener
It really depends on the year. Last year the fish were in right away. In years past we've seen the fish show up in significant numbers more toward the end of june. Check the hatchery escapement reports on the WDFW website, they'll tell you what you need to know.

I actually do own this exact rod, and it is absolutely fine for trout. You can soak dough bait with it no problem and it'll cast any of your small spinners and spoons just fine.Chromer wrote:Has anyone used this rod for trout? I'm thinking about getting one for $40 at Cabelas. It's a 6'6 Light rod.

Re: Trouble with fishing flatfish or Kwikfish lures
You're right on the money with the swivel idea. Use a ball bearing swivel 2-3 feet in front of your flatfish. Get the owner hyper swivels, they are way less expensive than sampos and every bit as good. On another note, you're also right on the money about the side to side action. If you are getting ...

Re: Looking for level wind trolling reels x 2
Shimano tritons are pretty hard to beat for an inexpensive salmon trolling reel. The TR-200G will hold plenty of 20 lb. test for salmon fishing. They're only $70 and pretty much bomb proof. And if they do need to be repaired/tuned up you can send it back to Shimano and for $30 they'll fix it/clean i...

Re: ANY LAWYERS!!!?? I need help!!! Traffic camera!!
My son has had many tickets, and now different insurance companies. Flash tickets don't show up on the record like speeding ones. I believe they are treated like parking tickets but more expensive. This is based on 4 years ago when he was driving my cars. In Tacoma I sent in the ticket, telling the...

Where are you located? I know if you run it in to west marine up in everett they will let you plug it in to their display if they have one that will work.

There was something about the Ballard Locks ceremonial fishery that took numbers from areas 9 & 10.... hearsay until I read it in a reliable source. But there it is... Yes, unfortunately we have the muckleshoots to blame for a drastically reduced hatchery chinook quota in areas 9 and 10. We are onl...

Re: Downrigger crab p puller
I would definitely be careful about how much weight you are pulling up with your down rigger. A pot full of crab can weigh quite a bit more than your downrigger is designed to pull, and there is a good chance you could end up breaking it.

I would check out harbor marine in everett, they have a decent selection of trailer parts. If you don't find what you are looking for there, I would ask one of their employees where you might find one. They could probably point you in the right direction.

Re: reel controversy time!
Chronarch E, hands down. Why? First of all, better drag. Second, I'm still 100% sold on the good old fashioned shimano variable braking system. I have never been a fan of the magnetic braking system on the Abus. In all fairness though, the STX has both magnetic and centrifugal brakes, which is just...
