Re: where to fish?
Anyone fish Elliot Bay fishing pier? I drive by that place all the time and have never heard anything good/bad about it. During salmon season it can be ok. Iv'e seen pictures of lings and rockfish caught off of it. There's a bulletin board on the pier where people post pictures of their catches. I ...

Re: A Note on Squawfish
Sigh... well I knew this might happen if I tried to defend the lowly squawfish. I just wanted to explain how they interact with the environment, which I did, so I will leave it at that.

Re: A Note on Squawfish
^^^ So what your saying is pretty much (Example:) Walk around with a gun off safety without the capability of realizing it has the ability to fire until it goes off and kills someone then put it on safety and call it good and go from there , Yeah no thanks. I value Salmon and Steelhead a little mor...

Re: A Note on Squawfish
Agruing over squaw's. Smh. Not worth it. I'm sure you got my point bub. 4. Yes, not every well adapted fish will live to reproduce, and some ill adapted fish will live to reproduce, it is by chance, being in the wrong place at the wrong time or the right place at the right time. This is called gene...

Re: A Note on Squawfish
My point being, unless there is a known over poplulation of northern pikeminnow, we shouldn't try and eradicate them. It is perfectly legal to harvest them and anglers can do so if they please, but to purposely catch and kill them when there is no over population thinking it helps salmonid populatio...

Re: A Note on Squawfish
An 'unsuspecting "strong" smolt' will get weeded out just like a "weak" smolt because it is not fit to survive in it's environment. It is not a "strong smolt" if it doesn't survive. "Survival of the fittest" is a misnomer. It doesn't necessarily have to do with physical fitness. An 'unsuspecting "s...

Re: A Note on Squawfish
If a squaw fish has an ambush point to harvest Steelhead smolt it don't matter if the smolt is "Weak" THEY WILL eat the unsuspecting "Strong" smolt as well. Lol. "Survival of the fittest" is a misnomer. It doesn't necessarily have to do with physical fitness. An 'unsuspecting "strong" smolt' will g...

A Note on Squawfish
A lot of people hate on the northern pikeminnow (squawfish) because they eat salmon and steelhead smolt. Because of this, some people kill them thinking it will help the salmon/steelhead population. Unfortunately this is not how an ecosystem works. Squawfish have coexisted with salmon and steelhead ...

Re: Gold, Silver and Copper : Metallic Colors
Since it would take forever to explain, ill give you an example of a scenario and what I would use. One time I was fishing a small lake for rainbow/cutthroat. It was a lowland lake, with plenty of food. The water was very clear and fairly cold, I think it was early march. The sun was out and it the ...

Re: Gold, Silver and Copper : Metallic Colors
There's a million intangibles when it comes to which to use, (species, weather, water clarity, water temp, etc). What it really comes down to is getting enough flash to induce a strike, but not too much to spook the fish.

Re: favorite trout dough
I never use dough bait anymore. Too messy and falls off the hook too easily. The rainbow power nuggets are da bomb. Power eggs are great because you can fling em a mile and they stay on the hook. Orange PE gets the most fish for me. Sometimes a little garlic sawse gets em. I don't know why but trout...

Re: Mercer island Bows and Throats
I fished luther burbank for cutts back in december. I made the mistake of going out to the end of the dock thinking that,s where the fish would be. It's easily 30-40 feet deep. When i tried roe all i got were sculpin and worms only got perch. There is lots of shore acess there and the trout will be ...

+1. Try using a bigger spinner or one with a little more flash (like genuine silver plated) to trigger an aggressive strike.Weekend-warrior17 wrote:Change lure color and it should be fish on.

Re: Lump Charcoal?
With such a tall enclosure, I would think about insulating it with something. They have several different types. Also, a small fan at the bottom to move the heat around would help as well. If it was well insulated, the temperature could be controlled a lot better. That's why some people make smoker...

Re: Lump Charcoal?
I use lump charcoal when using my barrel smoker. You can adjust the temperature by controlling the amount of air the charcoal/fire is given. For smoke, you just apply chips to the hot coals. In your application, it would be beneficial to install a chute at an angle to add chips to the pan and or co...

Lump Charcoal?
A while back I threw together a wood smoker out of some cedar scraps and for the most part it works great. The only problem is the current smoke generator I have is a hot plate with a cast Iron skillet that I throw chips on, It doesn't get hot enough. It Makes good jerky but it doesn't get hot enoug...

Re: Salmon Eggs and Small Trout
Tie up some spawn sacks. Put 4-8 single eggs per sack, depending on the size of the eggs. You might have to experiment on the size of the sack, but about the size of a dime is what I use most of the time. Usually the little guys won't bite, but if they do, the sack will prevent them from pecking it ...
