Time to buy Shoepeg corn it seems.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

Does any one know the weigh in time?

We'll be there.
RE:Lake Stevens Kokanee Derby
Good luck to all the washingtonlakes.com members that will be fishing in the derby tomorrow. I fished it today, along with about 50 other boats, and I can verify that there are fish to be had in the lake. I won't be out there tomorrow as crowded fishing conditions give me the heebie jeebies.
RE:Lake Stevens Kokanee Derby
Well, the boat I was on didn't get a fish in the boat. BUT someone from this website did catch a fish that placed. I hope he will hurry up and write something.
It was a fun event and they are planning to do it every year on the Saturday before Memorial Day.
All kids that fished and had derby tickets got to take something home. The top two kid placings were with 3 and 4 pound bass.
Adults who had fish to weigh in were placed in order and they got to pick what they wanted on tables and racks. From Lamiglass and Tica rods, Frabil nets, and bags of mixture of baits and other things from the sponsors. The last placing for adults I remember was 66th but I think there were more.

Hmmm, no new reports yet...
RE:Lake Stevens Kokanee Derby
For those who were nice enough to report on the derby, can you answer a couple questions.
About how many boats where out there?
Did most people have there limit?
Was it a good/adverage/poor day fishing.
Adverage size fish?
Thank you to those willing to report.

I guess it's a big secret. You have to be in the club to get the scoop on the derby.
It's a Kokanee thing, I guess I don't get it.

About how many boats where out there?
Its hard to judge but I would say about 75 boats.
Did most people have there limit?
Again hard to say but I would say no, I know that there were limits caught but everybody we talked to came up short of their limit.
Was it a good/adverage/poor day fishing.
It was tough fishing. I really had to work at putting fish in the box. Making many lure, dodger and bait changes while systematically trying different depths, speeds, varying course and fishing area. I noticed that even the guide boats were always on the move.
Adverage size fish?
Again not sure how everybody else did but our average size was running around 13” we had 12” fish, a number of 14” fish and the second place fish that was 15”.

About how many boats where out there? I heard someone say they counted 100 boats on the lake.
Did most people have there limit? I don't think so. My boat didn't. I know of another boat that only caught 3 so they stayed out fishing until an hour after the weigh in was over.
Was it a good/average/poor day fishing? In my point of view / poor. Or should I say fishing was great. Catching was poor.
Average size fish? I saw some stringers but I can't say for sure. So idk

RE:Lake Stevens Kokanee Derby
Thanks for the info. I didnt know the size range on kokane there. I'm new to this kokane fishing and plan on going again soon. Last time I went and caught 3. Two were around 11" and one at 13" So I was wondering if the 13"er was a good size one for the lake. I caught one 2 years ago fishing for trout and it was 14" my best on the lake.
So 3 times on the lake and I think Ive learned enough to catch several now.
Thanks to the people that post. 240 people and this few post????????????????????:pale:

TG4 - keep in mind that a front had moved in and the bite wasn't all that hot to begin with. Try the lake after a couple days of steady weather and it should be pretty hot once you find the schools of fish. Also, as the season progresses, the fish will bulk up for the fall spawn and I'm sure there will be more than a few 2 pound fish available for the taking. Keep on fishing the lake, working the gear and keep notes of what gets the job done and when. I was more surprised at the small trout that was weighed in for first place.
RE:Lake Stevens Kokanee Derby
G-man,
When the kokane spawn in fall do they die like regular salmon?

RE:Lake Stevens Kokanee Derby
Yes they do. They also go through the same physical transformations and end up looking like miniature versions of their ocean going kin.T4G wrote:G-man,
