walleye in sprague lake

What is up with sprague lake? Last i heard the wdfw was going to replant with walleye after the other species were established.Wasnt the original restocking like six or seven years ago? Ive seen reports of the panfishing being almost non existent. What happened? This used to be my favorite mixed bag lake especially great walleye. It would sure be nice to see it come back to its former prominence. P.s. I could care less about trout.

There were no plans to restock the Walleye.
The WDFW claims to have put some Bass and Crappie back but none have showed up yet, as far as I have heard.

that is too bad. Sprague was definately one of the best walleye lakes in the state and awesome panfish to boot. Arent there enough trout lakes already.

No Walleye, no perch, no plans to put them back. There was an option to put in Tiger Muskie, but that was also stopped.

I have seen bass, but very very very few. I have not seen any of the Crappie or Bluegill yet, but the state claims they have electro shocked some large ones. I suspect that the ones the shocked are the ones from the original stock and that they have not "taken off" yet.

Our springs have just been too cold for the Warm water fish to take off in Sprague - must be global warming.

What we have is a serious shortage of Northern Pike in our state. How about if the WDFW plants some of those in Sprague Lake!!!

Sprague would be a fine lake for Pike.
Much better than Trout that get all muddy taisting and soft.

You are correct. Sprague lake would be a fine lake for Pike. However, after many painstaking clicks and drags on a google map, I have determined that cow Cow Creek runs out of the south west end of Sprague lake, then meanders around and makes it's way eventually to the Palouse River, which then makes it's way to the Snake River, which then joins up with the mighty Columbia River. Therefore if there were pike in Sprague Lake, they could eventually migrate from the lake into the Columbia and wipe out the Salmon population and devistate the entire salmon fishery in the whole Northwest. Heck, they could even make it to the ocean and wipe out virtually every fish that swims there to. Spreading them out over that much water, I wonder how many sovereign nations could then get the big handouts from the BPA to control their population?????? Geez, even the Japanese fishing fleets might attend a BPA meeting asking for money. Wow, these pike can sure be infectious. Lets contact our local "National Pike Expert" and see if he thinks it would be a good idea to put pike in Sprague Lake.

They are going to get there if not allready.
What I do not understand is why we cannot have a Pike lake or two.
They are here and they are able to reproduce and be a viable resource.
The best part is they do not take millions of dollars a year to maintain.
I would travel to the Pend Orellie for Pike before I would go the Columbia for Salmon or Steelhead.

You and me both. However different strokes for different folks as they say. There are likely plenty of "Land locked" lakes in the state that would support an excellent pike fishery, that would not allow them to migrate out. My guess is that if there were any pike lakes in the state, the WDFW and anyone else concerned would lose sleep every night wondering if the ol' bucket biology were going on. Keeping Pike out of the state of washington, period, seems to be the thought process.
