Need reputable Repair shop or mechanic for older Ford F150

Post by reigndawgs » Thu Jun 16, 2011 5:24 pm

Does any work on older Ford pickups or can anyone recommend a good shop? My 1992 Ford F150 has the check engine light on, the transmission is slamming into gear and the rear fuel tank is non-operational. Not looking to put her back in mint condition, just want to keep her on the road if possible without paying more than she's worth to repair her. Please help, my fishing life depends on it!:-({|=

reign,
I can't suggest one via experience or reputation, but recently my wife showed me a flyer from these guys. I'm the type who takes my vehicles to the dealer and takes it up the tailpipe because (from experience) I don't trust most repair shops (not that I trust the dealers much more). At any rate, these guys made me look twice at least....and I may take my truck to them for the next maintenance checkup.
Good luck.

reingdawg, I know you asked if anybody on the list does Ford work. I am a complete stranger of course, but my local brother has been rebuilding and collection Fords all of his 49 years. He is into Fords like some of us are into fishing, lol. If you decide you want a phone number, send me a PM. When I was in college, he kept me out of the dealer mechanic garage, and on the road.

I had a 91 F150 for 17 years. Loved that truck. I let Wendle Ford talk me into a automatic transmission flush instead of a fluid change and filter cleaned. When I got it back, it started slamming into gear and did that for several months. Finally it smoothed out and shifted like it was new. I was told by a couple of mechanics that a flush will stir up crud in the system and until it finds a nook or cranny to settle back into it will shift hard. Lesson learned, drain and refill with a filter change/cleaned.

You may just need the fluid changed and the filter either cleaned or replaced. DON'T FLUSH IT!

If I remember right, each tank has a independent fuel pump. Check the wiring.

There`s a shop in Maple Valley Larimers Automotive. The shop is right around the corner from the maple Valley market on Hwy 169. Been in buisness for years and a very good friend of the family. Down to earth honest and doesn`t beat around the bush. Not saying this because he`s a friend either. I take all my vehicles new and old to him along with my hole family. Ask for Don. Pm me for more info if you like.
