I think it's important enough to start another conversation...

For a particular generation, this is as tragic as losing Elvis or Lennon. Michael Jackson was the typical mega music artist tragedy. In his early years, he influenced and helped MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of people, and fought for many great humanitarian causes. But, like many before him, the fame and money and who knows what else got him in the end. Let's remember him for the great things he did. His life took a turn for the worse, and NOBODY want's to see any person go through that. He was a very giving person in his younger years. Did he make mistakes...YES. Does everyone make mistakes...YES. He needed help in his later years, but never found the strength or people to help him. An icon has passed and a generation weeps.

Marc - "tragic" is a perfect word to describe this situation.
We all know the very well publicized personal life of MJ. I for one reflected back a little yesterday and thought to myself, there will be some posts that will make reference to the legal issues that MJ dealt with while others focus on the humanitarian and musical influence that he had on the world. I would find it hard to believe that like him or hate him, if you are now between the ages of 30 and 50 his music didn't impact you somehow. By "impact" I mean, if you think of a song off of thriller or off the wall, you could probably remember back to what was going on back then. Seeing the red jacket with all the zippers on it on sale at a store and wanting it, practicing the moonwalk etc. More often that not, in my opinion, it will bring back some good ol memories. Doesn't really matter whether you liked his music or not, one thing that can not be denied is his impact on music and videos. There is also no denying the fact that for every one person that didn't like his music, there were a hundred that did. Don't believe me? Wait and see what happens if there is a public service. When I think of MJ, the negative publicity is not the first thing that pops into my head. It's the music, the videos, watching swarms of people mob hotels and stadiums that he was performing at. I believe Thriller was atop the billboard for 36 straight weeks. That's insane! But that was the power and genius of his music. Can not argue those facts. I for one, will not (maybe cause I am a fan) focus on the negative challenges that took place in his later years, but because I want to remember him as the man that brought smiles and happiness to so many millions of people around the world including myself.

MJ accomplished positive things early in his career that no one did prior or probably ever. I won't be sprinkling rose petals in his path because of what happened in his later life. Even so, 50 is way too young to go.

I hate playing the censor and this is a Off Topic Zone, but let's leave this thread to the stated purpose and not stray into the ugly side of it. A celebration of the music would be nice. Speaking ill of the dead makes me feel queasy.

Agreed with Mike...besides, we are not the one's to be judging anyone...as the Bible States....Remember the words of Christ, let he cast a stone who is without sin. M.J. made such great music that has shone across HALF A DECADE! I'm dead middle of this, my parents knew his music, I knew his music, and the kids younger then me know his music and still party to it! What a LEGEND! I look forward to one day seeing a tribute to him in the EMP!

Time will tell the story of Michael Jackson/Jacko....I really don't think what we say here will have any affect on his story. All we get here is a bunch of fisherman getting all worked up over ............................if I was to finish my thoughts, I too would probably get censored by the powers of the delete button. Maybe we should continue to talk fishin' and learnin' about this sport we ALL so love.

If I may, I would like to say something.

For 23 years, I worked in and around a cemetery and funeral home. In those 23 years, I officiated over thousands of grave side services and memorial services. These services and gatherings were attended by people who were in one form or another, mourning. I buried everyone from U.S. Senators to motor cycle gang members to cold blooded killers. In each of these services, family and friends gathered peacefully to mourn the person they loved or admired. Never in all those years did I see anyone attend a memorial service that came for the sole purpose of degrading or talking badly of the deceased. Never.

The Off Topic portion of this forum is for those, who choose, to engage in conversations other than fishing. This includes discussing the feelings a person may have towards a person that has just passed away.

Now, I ask of the readers of this forum, to respectfully give the people on this site the opportunity to express their heartfelt feelings. I also ask that if you cannot say anything positive in this thread, please refrain. The people who loved his music and admired his talent should have a little corner of this forum to remember and to, should I say, mourn.

I also will remember MJ for his music and not his faults,..I grew up listening 2 his music and will continue 2 listen 2 it and enjoy it,..I agree with what has been said,.."let's remember him 4 his music",.."Amen",..and again I say "Amen"!

Marc...Just a note about funerals...I also went to hundreds of funerals when I was on funeral detail in the Army....Went to one that the 2 wives and the wife to be showed up.....along with a father with a gun....Of course we had no real bullets so we ran with rest....Strange things happen! BTW the only one shot was the guy in the box! Have a good season, Steve
