Up early this AM and saw that the flag was hanging straight down. Hooked up the boat to the old truck and headed for the lake. Arrived around 6:45am and found the lake to as flat and calm as glass. Got the boat into the water and started North from the launch. I had three rods prerigged with a Rapala, a spinner bait and a jig.

Along the lilly pads I offered up the Rapala without any response. As soon as I neared the first dock I switched to my spinner, a combo colorado and willow leaf with a blue/white body and white skirt, to which I added a yellow tailed grub. First cast under the dock produced a 9" LM bass. I fished the next three docks with the spinner and produced 3 more of those 9" LM bass. All of these were released.

I then crossed to the East side of the lake and fished South, concentrating on the docks. I worked all the way up the East side without another strike. After getting past the last dock on the South / East side I crossed the lake to the West side and started North. The wind picked up and it was getting harder to hold the boat.

A couple weeks prior I had been fishing with my grandson and I had hooked and lost a nice bass under one of these docks. As I approached the dock which had produced the previous strike, I cast my spinner up toward the dock. Darn the cast was about 1' to far and the whipped around a morring line for the large pontoon boat. I was forced to move into the dock to seperate myself form the snag.

Mumbling too myself about the lost opportunity I moved away from the dock and manuvered around to the other side. What the heck I thought as I cast the spinner all the way up to the shore end of the dock. Sudddenly there was a great splash as a large bass hit the lure. I set the hook and began to work him toward the boat. In the water I could see this was a very nice fish. Boated him with the net. Laying at my feet was a nice fat, disgruntaled LM Bass. He had engulfed the spinner, knocking the skirt almost off. I didn't have a live well so I wanted to move quickly. I removed the lure and laid him on my ruler. 15 1/2 inches of plump bass. I didn't have my scale handy, and not wanting to keep him out of water too long I thanked him for the fun and gently released him back into the lake.

I fished back to the launch without anymore action. I was pleased that I had been able to hook and land the one nice fish. I headed home around 10:30 am.
