Well... today started off normal. I went to my good friend Karl Kennowitz's house for a bit of fishing. Karl didn't join me so I started off fishing for about an hour and 15 minutes from 3:45-5:00pm for bass and only ended up getting about three 7 inchers. Not so exiting. Then i pretty much toured the lake for another hour and 15 minutes to get one last good at it on this fine September day before the upcoming fall. After that, I came back to his dock and decided to try my luck at a bit of trout fishing. My choice of bait was pink power eggs on an egg hook floating about a foot and a half off the bottom. I cast about 30 feet out and let time do the rest. I waited for about 10 minutes and all of a sudden i see this giant fish leap about 3 feet out of the water and land with a splash. I looked at my once tight line and saw that it had gone slack and knew the fish was on so i set the hook. After a good fight and two more jumps later i finally beached the fish full of excitement and pride. It was a rainbow trout (most likely triploid) and it was 19 inches long and must have been 3+ pounds. It was a giant fish for me after getting used so so many small fish. He swallowed the hook and when i got it out he was bleeding heavily so i had to keep him. I'd rather not keep fish of that size and i usually C&R, but when using power bait the fish usually swallow the hook and you are planning on keeping your fish. What a fun day! The fish was caught at about 6:30pm.
