Tough rating this one... Only caught two fish but I gave it a 4 anyway because of the other factors: 1) It was my 1st time ice-fishing; 2) the nice guys next to us who let us use their ice auger, and 3) our Super Bowl hero -- the guy who loaned us his chains so we could get out of the parking lot and back to town in time for the big game!

We got on the water around 8 or 8:30 and started working some of the existing holes within the first couple 100 feet from the parking lot and a few we drilled a few of our own with the loaner ice auger. I think the ice varied between 10-12" or so. We pulled in two very nice rainbows and tossed back one catfish. We had a few more bumps and a few misses until we left (or TRIED to leave) around 1:30.

No regrets, we had a fun day on the ice and caught some 'bows that would have been good catches even if it been a sunny 75 degrees. Nice lake too -- being down in that hole I think you could fish in a blizzard. Uncrowded & scenic, too.

In spite of all the recent reports indicating that salmon eggs were the ticket, it was corn that did the trick today. We altered between jigging corn on snelled hooks a few cranks off the bottom or a few cranks below the surface.

A warning to all non-4x4 fisherman. It's a fairly steep descent into the lake parking lot and conditions can change quickly so be prepared. We had 1" of light snow and good traction in the morning and by afternoon the warm temps and rain had turned it into slick compact snow. Park up higher & walk, pack chains and/or sand, or drive soemthing 4wd or AWD.

Good luck out there, dress warm and stay dry!
