It was the first time I went to the opening day fishing derby at Lake Wilderness. It was crowded but fun with a lot of families and very few to no trouble makers. We fished on the small peninsula between the dock and the boat launch. I know they put a ton of fish in this lake but WOW were we in the wrong spot. Between 7 or 8 of us we got one fish. I think the spot was too shallow; with the sun and abundance of boat anglers I think the fish were out in the middle of the lake and pretty deep. The guys and gals on the boats were doing really well. No biggie, it was fun anyway and a great sunny day. We fished bobbers with worm, power bait, fake maggots. Off the bottom with power bait and worms. I also tried a rooster tail. Only had a couple bites when using a bobber. I'll head back with the pontoon boat when it dies down a little.
