This morning my wife and I fished Heart Lake. We thought we would wait for the opening day weekend to pass so the crowd would be less. We arrived at 9am. Only about 7 boats on the water and plenty of shore space to launch. You name it; we trolled it without a bite. We trolled the deeper side of the lake along the tree line without a bump. About an hour and a half in we noticed fish jumping directly across from the launch, to the right of the point, so we anchored there in 12 feet of water and began casting the green Rooster tail spinner. We landed 4 - 13 inch plants in the next hour or so loosing two others at the boat. The fish were nice in size and fought well. The bite however in my opinion was poor. 6 fish on in 3 hours is poor! I believe this was due in part by the 56 degree water temp. I think it is a little too cold yet for the trout to be active. They are moving on the surface but the actual bite seemed short and not often enough like most openers are. We were expecting a very common opening weekend 2 limits in an hour type deal and that was far from what happened. Despite the slow fishing, the lake was beautiful and it was sunny and 58 degrees outside. Good luck all.
