Went out to my buddy Fred Fergisson's lakeside property at Klinks resort for the weekend of opening day. It was my first trip to Williams Lake ever and i thought that it was a really nice lake. We had a cool view! Supposedly they killed off the whole lake a couple years back so there is only rainbow trout in this lake. Anways... we started fishing off his dock with kastmasters and vibrax spinners in about 5-15 feet of water for the early morning trout bite. My god it worked better than when we tried trolling later in the day! We kept catching one fish after another and they were big! It was hard to throw back some of the big fish we caught but we had to make sure that we didn't limit out so we could do some trolling later. The only fish we kept were the biggest fish. Most of the fish we caught off the dock were 15-17 inch triploids and we had a few 12 or so inch planters as well. We did catch two brookstock RBT that were 20 and 22 inches as an added bonus and I lost another one that spat the hook as i was reeling it in. Those broodstock trout are big fish! Supposedly they are in limited supply of about a hundred... After the morning bite died down we decided to go out and troll in my friend's small aluminum boat with his minn kota. That day we trolled bronze and sliver Dick Nites at around a 20 foot depth at the deepest. Five minutes into trolling my friend hooked an 18 inch trout. We trolled up north to a little island under about 2 feet of water and only caught little 12 inch planters. On our way back i hooked into a 24 inch 5 pound trout! The thing jumped out of the water after it hit the lure and made a huge thud/splash that echoed on the cliff face. It was a brute and took some good runs spooling line off my reel and jumping. After that excellent fight we netted the fish and brought it back to keep. By the end of the afternoon we eventually ended up limiting out. Fishing would have been impossible for us after that anyways because it was so windy we got blown off the lake! I didn't like how the lake tended to get windy towards the end of the day. I had such a fun trip and i'm glad my friend decided to bring me. What an experience!
