Time: midday till dusk
Location: South end lilypads/ sunken forest
Boat traffic: mild, yet still irritating (hearing four different songs blaring at the same time from wake-boarding boats)
Boat speed: drifting- I was in a 7' row boat
Over the course of the afternoon I tried just about everything in my tackle box with zero luck. I ended up using live worms and finally started getting some hits about the time the sun began to set. From that point on it was non stop hits! Ended up with a ton of baby Crappie and a 12" Brown Bullhead Cat. Kept the cat and released all but one of Crappie. The catfish actually caught one of the Crappie as I released while on the stringer and refused to let it go.
All in all I had a relaxing and enjoyable day. Next time I'll be better prepared (more worms and an anchor) and start deeper and stick to the <10' water in the evening.
I grew up fishing in the brackish/muddy waters of the southern US and need to change my game. It'll take some getting used to the clear northwestern waters.
