Sitting on a friends dock we noticed 3 or 4 of these fish below us. We got a rod from my friends garage, put a piece of yellow corn on a hook, and reeled one in! Since we didn't recognise the fish we released it, but not before we snapped a picture. Can someone tell me what this is?

*Editor's Note: YukonMatt, you are the proud catcher of a highly conveted carp. Hope you kept him! Smoke him up. Mike

That is one fish where it is not necessary to catch and release.

That's NOT a Grass Carp. Perfecly legal to fish for this Carp, and kill them if you like.

You did the right thing by releasing it because you were unsure of what it is. We call them Golden Bonefish. :) They can be pretty hard to catch at times.

not a grass carp grass carp have different body characteristics. but it is a carp none the less. first thing id like to say is how do you not know wat a carp is. second. carp fishing is one of the most fun fishin there is to do. we fishin them catch and release cuz they taste like crap sometime we will keep em cuz theres a recipe thats perfect with carp but 99.9 percent of time we release. its so of the best fight you will find in freshwater fishing. lastly id like to say that you can catch them on always anything wen the time is rite. corn and bread are the best late nite or early morning. but ive almost one on a floating minnow. we i fishin bass. sucker came up from under to grab it but sucker was so slow my reflex pull the minnow rite out of its mouth. woulda been one fun fite. oh and ps in washington its legal to bow fish carp so if you wanna have real fun give that a try.

Uh ...........WHAT ???

Perhaps someone could post a link to a site that can provide positive information so to identify which kind of carp it is.

Sounds like you enjoyed yourself catching it, which is the important thing. Good Job

You can use the "search" feature on this site to search in reports, articles, etc for carp postings. Here is one:

Just two pictures so you have to do some web searching for a more complete picture gallery of carp.
