After having read a report of decent fly fishing to be had at Fish (thanks, Rooscooter), I headed out there this morning. Other lakes have been tough for me as of late due to the mid-summer dog days. Launched the pontoon at 7:30. Surface water temp 77. There was a mayfly hatch coming off but I elected to use an old Fish Lake go-to pattern, a size 10 black bugger fished on a type III sink line. Immediately began getting strikes and landing fish as I kicked from the launch toward the fishing dock. The first hour, 7:30 to 8:30 was incredible, with eight strong strikes that yielded six hook-ups and four fish to net, all tigers 11-14". I must admit this surprised me....these fish acted like it was April or May and as though the water temps were still in the 50s!!! They fought decently and swam off well upon release. The finder showed nearly all fish suspended 17-20 feet down. The action slowed from about 9:00 onward as the sun got higher and hotter and the action tapered off to bumps, taps and short strikes , but I managed four more hook-ups and two more 12" tigers to net before leaving at 10:30. I also had 3-4 fish, once again all tigers, follow my fly right up to the boat. Interesting.....I did not see a single brookie today. Must be too hot for them. Thanks again, Rooscooter!

Raff,
No problem. I will be out there Friday morning early trying to hook up some more of the big Tigers that I found last time out. Interesting that you used a black pattern. I don't seem to have much luck with black in Fish Lake. I get more action with a dark olive pattern with either a red or green bead head.

Did you see any surface action? The mayflies were pretty thick the other morning.

Tight Lines!
