Just got back from Mar Don. The fishing wasn't great but I liked what I saw. This is the first year in a couple years I caught a good number of perch. I didn't catch any off the regular dock, only the gas dock. You are not allowed to fish off this dock, but its kind of an unwritten rule, that if they are closed you can, so you can only fish it at night. At the gas dock we caught a bunch of fish but no size really. Perch, bluegill, & crappie. The perch were close to keepers, so hopefully by September there should be some nice sized ones. We were using yellow/pearl 1/64 oz jigs. The second night we went to the main dock. We fished right under the last light. They were a bunch of crappie swimming right under the surface. I caught a fair amount of crappie, I would say around 20, but only four were keepers. The fishing really started to get good at about 3am, but we had to get up early and leave so we wanted a little bit of sleep. I also caught a keeper bluegill at the top of the dock.We used nite brite 1/32 oz jigs. We only fished at night and the first night it was 12am - 5am, and the other night was 12am - 3am. The resort was packed but not too many fisherman. Heard of a 5lb bass and a 4lb walleye taken off the dock. Saw a bunch of smaller smallmouth at the fillet station. Overall I would say the fishing was pretty slow, but in about 2 - 3 weeks it should be great fishing.
