Took my grandfather out to Newman Lake the 8th and 9th. Wednesday afternoon he hooked and lost one at the boat, probably 40-42 inches. An hour later or so I landed a 39 inch muskie that put up one hell of a fight. The first muskie I have caught that has gone airborne on me. He shot out of the water pulled off a double somersault and entered the water again. I gave it about a 9. Took a while to get him to swim off but after about a 15 min. rehab session he decided he didn't like us anymore and took off. Also caught a 12 inch crappie that day.

Thursday we hit the lake again. Started off slow on the muskie side of things, but I managed to land 2 nice 15 inch largemouths. In the morning I lost what I think was a real nice bass or a small muskie. Never got him to the surface to see it. My grandfather lost a muskie in the afternoon that we never did get close enough to the boat to see its size. Judging by the fight he was probably 36-40 inches. We almost gave up for the day and headed home, but decided to give it a try in the evening. Good thing we did! It wasn't long until we had a very angry, very large muskie on the end of the rod. Took a little while to get him in the boat. After measuring and careful weighing we slipped him into the water. It didn't take him as long to decide that he didn't like being near the boat and he vanished into the weeds. Measurements on the fish were 46 1/2 inches and 25 lbs. All in all it was a pretty good trip, not only the fishing. Saw several bald eagles and quite a few deer, two of which had fawns.

Wow, 46 1/2! Nice muskie! Both pictures are great. The one of your grandfather is a treasure and the other; what a beaut!
Thanks for the horizontal holds and taking the time for good releases.
Good job of passing it on! Come back and catch 'em again some other day.
