This evening was one of those rare occasions when I set out with the intention of catching bass. And rarer yet is the fact I actually caught 3! And lost 3 more. All were small ones under 10 inches though. Got them along the west side working along the dollar pads with a floating perch pattern rapalla. I also caught 100 lbs of weeds. Sammi got one bass on a jig and about 50 lbs of weeds. After about an hour we figured we must be nearing our weed limit, and decided to go after our more usual quarry, the crappies.
We moved across the lake to a spot near Jerrys landing that has been good to us before. But we only landed 3 crappies in the last hour before dark, and Sammi landed 2 more bass and a big tench to finish the night. All the fish were released to be caught again another day.
We aren't finding the schools of crappies like we did for most of the summer. Still getting nice sized fish with only 1 in 10 being undersized, but its been a fish here and a fish there our last few outings. No fast and furious action. The lake is changing rapidly now from what it has been the last 3 months. Most all of the surface weeds in the main lake are gone. The water has become cloudy and has a lot of tiny particles in it. Probably from decaying weeds that have sunk and are decomposing. Wind and waves tore them lose a few weeks ago and formed giant floating weed rafts. Most have broken up and sunk now. To bad because fishing was great this year in and around the rafts, and in the weed beds of summer.
