I stayed at the Mardon Resort over the weekend, hoping to catch a walleye before I move back to the rainy-side next week. I arrived around 6 pm on Friday, and planned to fish off the dock. It was not to be however as it was extremely windy out. You couldn't even get out to the front part of the dock because waves were crashing over it and it was violently teetering back and forth. I tried fishing off the dam for about ten minutes, but after ten minutes of casts that kept coming back about ten feet from shore I decided to retire to my room.

Saturday was beautiful out-- the flip-side of Friday. I rented a boat for the entire day, well, a Mardon day, which is 7 am to 7 pm, to pursue walleye in. I was told by everybody there that the walleye weren't biting on anything-- but I decided to take on the role of chump-for-the-day and pursue them anyway. After I subtract my eating time, I'd say I trolled for walleye for a little over seven hours, with double whammies and deep diving green rapalas, with no success. I did catch one decent smallmouth (maybe a pound or so) while trolling a rapala, but that was it. At 6 pm I decided to fish the dam and some rockpiles for bass, but they were pretty fished out due to the "old farts' bass tournament" held earlier that day. Half-pound smallies and largemouth readily struck at most tubes and crankbaits I threw though (see picture for an idea of their size). I caught and released at least ten of the little guys before heading back to the docks.

I fished the docks from 7:30 to 9 pm, and small-to-slightly above average-sized perch and bluegill readily slurped up my micro-jigs tipped with maggots. Talking with fisherman coming in from the lake there was no walleye action at all, but one angler did report catching a crappie while trolling for walleye by the dunes in the pound-plus range. Over-all it was a fun trip, everything seems to be biting at Potholes besides besides the marble-eyes! Hopefully they'll snap out of it in a few weeks.
