fished Fish lake Sunday from about 8am to9:30. Trolled with muddler minnow and brown beadhead woolly bugger. The action was very fast. Released the small fish and only kept fish 12 inches and over. We had our limits in a little over an hour. My wife caught two that were 11/2 lbs. and I got one on the woolly bugger that was 23ins. weighed 5lbs 2 ounces. It was a little cold but no wind, great day.

Nice fish, Bob. Today I wish I lived in Wenatchee! It seems like everything around here (Vancouver, USA) is in the "wait for spring" mode. You have inspired me, I am going to go out this weekend and get me some fish, dog-gone-it!! I have just recently learned how to use the Wooly Bugger. I tried to troll it at Battle Ground Lake, but I am not sure I am doing it right. I first put a sliding, clear bobber. Then a bead and then tied on a snap swivel. Attached to the snap swivel is a leader about 36" long with the Wooly Bugger on the end and the bobber half full of water. I cast out the line and then as I rowed I let additional line out until the bobber was about 60 feet behind me then I paddled the lake. First down the middle and then all around the shoreline. I had one hit down the middle, but failed to set the hook. That was it, I trolled for two or three hours stopping now and again to cast the WB and to fish with other lures and the trusty worm under a bobber. The worm was the only thing that got fish...too small for eating. Maybe I am trolling too fast/too slow, maybe I need more line out, maybe I need to weight the WB to go deeper...I do not know.

Any advice for a novice?

I use a fly rod with a fast sink line . My wife uses a spinning rod with a small weight and the fly 36 to 48 inches behind. We vary our trolling speed and give the rod small jerks to give the fly more action. We are fishing 5 to 15 feet deep. Drive over to fish lake you wont be sorry, but a long trip where you are from. good luck

Thanks for the advice, Bob.
I will try the weight on the line like you described instead of the bobber.
Maybe it will be better if I use my trolling motor instead of rowingOne thing I have discovered about fishing is that it is not an exact science and what works for one fisherman might not work just the same way for another fisherman. And I guess I just have to keep experimenting with the methods folks describe!
I do not know about a drive over there...Google maps says it is "268 mi – about 4 hours 45 mins" from my house...maybe one day.
