Went out for round 2 and 3 recently of the lakebottom investigation experiment.

DO NOT GO OUT WITHOUT A JET! Many stumps and woody structure are within 6" or less to the water surface. Also, from the Ninemile resort up, the water is generally less than 2'. Sandy bottom in many places, with rock riffles elsewhere.

Many of the fishing holes are exactly what you would expect, with rocky slopes and woody structure. The trick is trying to figure out which ones will be the fish-holders. Have found 2 dead deer recently, ice not enough to support them. Birds of prey are very active right now, with as many as 4 eagles being seen in one place at one time. Im guessing this is a contributing factor to the lack of fish rising.

Last check, the Ice sheet was still in the willow bay area. Im going to try to get out later this week or weekend to see if it has receeded more.

IM GOIN TO BE HEADING OUT TO LONG LAKE THE WEEKEND AFTER THIS ONE TARGETING BASS AND HOPING TO GET INTO SOME CRAPPIE ALSO. THIS IS GOING TO BE THE SECOND TIME TO THIS LAKE BUT THE FIRST TIME IN THE COLD CONDITIONS. THE FIRST TIME I HAD NO PROBLEM CATCHING THEM BUT I HAVE BEEN HEARING DIFFERENT ABOUT THE COLD SEASON ANY TIPS ON GOOD SPOTS FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR?

Don't hold your breath on winter bass here. This time of year they have over 5000 acres of water to hide out in still, most of which is 30+ft deep. Better choices are Rock lake and Eloika this time of year.
