On Friday all the lakes were pretty well iced over, but on Sunday the lakes were a lot more fishable. Burke only had a tiny hole of fishable water on Friday but Sunday, about half the lake was open. We met up with our friends and between the 12 of us we caught about 10 fish. 18" leader seemed to be the ticket. The fish were all about 13" or 14" and the flesh was bright red compared to the white meat bows from Martha. I tried spinning for a while w/o even a bump. I only had 1 solid hook up and it felt like a good fish but it ran me into the weeds and snapped my line. We talked to 1 guy who said he fished Burke for 20 hours and only landed 3 fish. Burke seemed to be the slowest (other than Quincy which never thawed out) but hopefully the lake will still have fish come later in the year. Also a guy caught a 4lb bow right next to us.

Hey GPC,
Looks like you've been fishing quite a bit in Grant Co. so far. Do you know anything about the Seep Lakes (Heart, Windmill, Canal etc.)? I was curious about the ice situation. thanks- jlarson

Fish Man, it would have been very easy to catch 200+ fish a day at martha lake. But we got pretty bored with that really quick so we moved on to other lakes.

jlarson, Grant county is where I fish the most other than king county. The seep lakes are awsome lakes to fish. I mostly fish the seeps during the summer for panfish and walleye though. The ice conditions are really weird in that part of the state, but I know the resevoir is fishable now. The April 1st opener seems to be pretty productive over there. Warden, pillar, and the haptons kick out a lot of fish during that time and there are some lunkers over there. Canal is also a really good lake and a few lakes over there (I know corral, sage and a few others) are shceduled for rehab in the near future.
