Ive been to this lake quite a bit since it opened March 1st. The first day I went was an hour after WDFW dumped a crap load of brooders in there. Needless to say we limited out pretty easy that day trolling anything flashy.

The next few times has sucked. We've targeted mostly walleye. I don't think they bite much out there right now. Not sure what we are doing wrong. We've been using bottom bouncers with spinners and a worm rigged on and trolled the entire lake. We have found a lot of structure with fish all over it but never picked anything up, not even the random trout.

Ive also tried vertical jigging jigs and spoon with and without worms around all this structure with no luck. Any pointers for this time of year? The temp last night was 41.5.

For the Walleye try from dusk to dark and shollow. This is the time of year they spawn, I know theres not an inlet big enough for them to spwan, but try near the springs. Whats your trolling speed, I would go as slow as can. Try a jerk bait about 3' behind you bottom bouncer!

Thanks for the tips! We literally trolled the entire lake a couple times about 1.3 to 1.6mph. Havent given up, just ran out of cash for the new license.

Actually, the larger rainbows you may have caught around March 1st are fish that have carried over from previous year. Quite a few of these fish were trying to spawn in the rock piles along the launch this year. The WDFW has only planted catchable size rainbows in Liberty tLake this year so far. No triploids or larger brood stock have been planted this year based on the weekly planting reports. Those larger fish shouldn't be very good eating since they just finished spawning. Maybe think about letting those big boys go for someone else to catch again. Fish On!

My two friends watched the truck back up to the launch and open a pipe that literally dumped a ton of fish into the lake at the launch. Many of these fish were "huge" in their opinion. When I arrived at the lake there were dozens and dozens of huge brooders just swimming around real shallow. There were a lot of dead ones just lying there also in the water. Call the WDFW and ask them if they did.

I guess if you were there than they must have put some big boys in with the normal small stock. Most of the bigger rainbows we caught appeared to be post spawn. Males were still juicin everywhere and females had already dropped their eggs. This lake is too busy for me now, so i will be heading to the next good fishery that has recently thawed. Have fun with the slimers (i.e. rainbow trout). Fish On!
