Fish Rufus on Friday from about 9:30 am - 1:30 pm, with Gringo Pescador. The fishing was pretty much non stop the whole time we were there. The only problem was, the fish weren't monsters. I caught 15 fish, from about 3/4lb - 2.5lb. But the average was about 2lbs. I caught most of my fish on a black jig, but green and pink jigs worked too. One of my friends used a roostertial and killed them and my other buddy used a krocodile and killed em, what ever you threw out worked. I tried the mallows and worm and caught a fish with in a minute.

Everybody at the pens were also catching fish. But the biggest we saw caught was a 5.4lber (I overheard them talking about the weight).

But let me tell you this, my boy Gringo, kind of got off to a slow start. But once he found his lure of choice he put us to shame. He might have caught as many fish as me and my buddys combined. In fact, he caught more than anybody else at the net pens that day. He also caught the biggest fish out of me and my buddys.

Thanks for letting me and fish-dog tag along GPC! It was definitely was a fun time and a busy morning! I ended up catching fish on: Black on Black Panther Martin, Black Jig, and a Yellow Macks Promise Keeper. But the lure of the day for me was a green #3 Blue Fox. It seemed I was hooking up about every other cast. Drove fish-dog nuts letting all those fish go!. Like GPC said, all fish were between 3/4 - 2.5lb - though I did keep one that weighed out at 3# and let 2 more go that were about the same size. What I found interesting was I think the 4 of us were having far better luck that anyone else there and for the most part we were not using bait. And the fish seemed to all be hooking up around 15-20' from shore - I think I only hooked two that were farther out. I also heard a couple people talk about the water being really high - though I have nothing to compare it too.

I was thinking about heading to rufus at the end of the month. I am heading over to eastern washington for th trout opener and wanted to give rufus a try while over there. Where do you put in at, and how far of a run is it to the net pens. I have a 14 ft boat bit only a 6 horse motor, is it a long run? Any other pointers would be great, sounds like you guys had a blast, I would love to hook into some of those trips. Thanks Guys

Nice! I fish there from time to time but, it's been a while. I was wondering if they still catch walleye in that lake like they used to. We used fish it for the Walleye below GCD and troll for the Trips.

Way to go. Can't wait to launch the boat and see if we can't find some bigger Trips.
My brother and I will be there the weekend of the 19th with our secret weapon. Going to try catching some Walleyes also.
HH there is a launch just upriver from the lower pens that you should be able to launch at with no problem.

Great report man, sounds like roofus woods is the hott spot in the state right now, i am heading up there tomorrow morning for an over night stay. I only have a 12foot alumanum with a small trolling motor, i would rather just bank fish, you think that would produce fish just as well? Ok, hopefully i hear back from you before the morning.

Rob G. I think I am going to hit blue and park lake for the opener. Grand Coulee is only an hour run from Blue Lake, and the net pens are only about 20 miles past Grand Coulee. It would be a great place for the kids. I am no expert at Rufus, but I at least know how to get to the net pens and where to get the tribal permits.
