Surface temperature was 60 degrees and despite the partly sunny skies the wind was a severe factor. Although able to fish on May 1st, I was literally blown off the lake on the 2nd. Large midge hatches and some mayflies were present. As also were small pale cream and olive scuds seen in the shoreline vegetation. There’s no doubt the fish have plenty to feed on a get big. Many fish were found spawning in the northern channel. Their eggs are taken and fertilized by Fish and Game to be restocked into the lake itself since the fish cannot reproduce naturally in the small outlet.
I fished only a few hours on May 1st and did not even get a strike. I fished from the boat access point, second public access point from the south. I did not meet anyone that had bragging rights to more, although one fisherman said upon arriving to the lake that he has always had good success there. Saw only two fish rise to the surface in the several hours I fished. Because of the lake’s size, the key to fishing this lake is locating the fish. I think that my next attempt shall come in the late fall.
