4/17/2008 3:41:00 PMI went to Meridian last Sunday evening from 5:30pm - 6:30pm. The weather was getting pretty bad, but I've caught trout on that lake in all kinds of weather. Anyway, when I arrive, some angler is leaving the lake, complaining that only one fish had been caught on the lake all day. Not at all discouraged, I whip out my trusty crappie rig with a slip bobber and a leaded hook. I string on a small piece of nightcrawler and a small ball of orange powerbait. Most importantly, I make sure that my bait is no more than 6-8 feet below the surface. I make my first cast, and wham! my bobber instantly disappears. Within the hour, I caught a total of ten (10) trout. I kept 5 for myself, threw 2 back, and give the rest to some kids who also weren't having much luck. The kids asked me what my secret was, and I repeated what I tell everyone: UP TOP in Spring, ON THE BOTTOM in summer. If you follow that formula I think that it will greatly improve your chances.
