Got off early, and decided to head up and check on the algae bloom on Clear Lake! Got to the launch expecting to be the only one there on a Thursday afternoon.....uhhhh, looks like the WDFW had something to say about that!! HaHa

When I turned the corner towards the launch I was surprised to see at least ten rigs parked along the shore!! Looks like they released the triploids recently!!! No biggie for me, I was there for bass.....

The water temps were 49.5-52 degrees, the water is still rather stained with green algae, but it is beginning to break up in places....another week or so should do it? I caught three bass before the wind made it impossible to feel the soft strikes, they weighed 3lbs 3.9lbs and 5lbs even. I also lost three, none of which were over 3lbs... The interesting thing about fishing this afternoon was....after making a cast and working my jig for bass, I would reel in to cast again, and the triploids would race up a railroad my jig on the retrieve!!! I must have missed 6 of them reeling in my jig!!! It was pretty funny cause you could see them dart up and swipe at it sometimes two or three times on one retrieve!! I actually caught three of the buggers while working my jig near logs! Weird!

As the wind picked up, I decided to try actually fishing for the things.... I tied on a small floating rapala in a sunfish color... I would cast it in towards shore, and slowly reel it back in just above the submergent lily pads.... I caught and released six, kept three for the family, and missed about a dozen more....it was pretty fun....except for the wind!!

If you go, expect CROWDS this weekend!! With limited parking, you had better get there early! Also, DO NOT park past the red sign that says "No Parking Beyond This Sign".....unless you're fond of $250 tickets and or tow trucks!! I called and complained, and the Sheriff will be patrolling this weekend!! Ahhh, revenge IS sweet:)

Thanks! I didn't notice too many being caught? The bank anglers were having a slow go because the fish had moved away from the "dump in site" and were spreading throughout the lake! I saw one other boat with one fish... Keep in mind, that the wind made it almost impossible to troll!! I found that the slowest retrieve in the shallower water was the most productive....was that also because of the wind??

If I were you, I would take a couple "minnow-spins" or small floating rapala's, and be ready to try casting around in 3-6 feet of water...right through the lily pads, that is where I hooked every one of my fish!! If the conditions are calm just watch for rolling fish to show you were to troll, if it's windy, then fish the wind blown side of the lake!

I ran into my fish to the left of the concrete launch between the two plastic docks, and to the right of the concrete launch on the opposite side of the lake to the left of the brand new plastic dock... hope that helps? Alot of info, but if it helps you get your limit then :)
