Wow what a great Opening day derby!! Ok so having a derby from midnight to noon was a bit weird. I posted a thread asking advice about night fishing for trout. I really appreciate how helpful everyone on the site was and always is!! That said, we (My fishing buddies Mike and Carl and I) got to Clear at midnight, tried all the tips, and lets just say it was a pleasant night of boating. The plan was to bottom/bobber fish until daybreak. Once the sun was on its way up we were going to troll like mad. We hooked up two rigs with brook trout colored rapalas, can you say FISH ON!!!!! The rapalas had small lips so only dove a couple of feet, but that's all it took. The trout we hitting the lures and launching right out of the water. We fished from daybreak till about 10:00. We bagged 2 2lbs bows and 12 browns. It was none stop and it was great! They stocked over 200,000 trout this year and they are hungry. Oh and we managed to land 2 channel cats just before the troll fest. What a day. And all before lunch!!
