I arrived at Lake Sixteen at 3:30 pm. There were several boats on the lake. It was 60 degrees F outside and the water temp was 55.6 degrees F. It was cloudy, no wind or rain. I began trolling a small olive woolly bugger fly with no results. After about 40 minutes I spoke with a guy in a float tube who was catching one after another. He told me he was using a full sized olive woolly bugger and floating line line. I switched to a full size woolly bugger and only had my sinking line. Within minutes I hooked and landed a 12 inch trout that hit like a ton of bricks. It has been a long time since feeling a trout hit a fly like that and it was great. I continued trolling the fly for about another hour without another strike so I switched to a wedding ring with worm and within 15 minutes I had two more nice fish in the boat. Thinking the bite was going to be on, I elected to stay for my last two which by 7:30 pm had not come. The wind however did come so I called it quits with 3 nice fish. Before the wind arrived when I had caught the two in a row, the water was calm and fish were jumping everywhere. It was a fun time despite the somewhat slow bite. To me great fishing has always meant the fish are biting well and a limit comes in about an hour. This week I fished 3 lakes 4 times in 7 days and at no time was the bite great. In 4 trips this last week I caught a total of 13 fish, and have enjoyed several great trout meals. It was nice to have a week off to do some fishing. Back to the grind on Sunday.
