Came away from Island Lake tonight with only one bass landed, but that one fish gave me a pretty good fishing story. I got my standard three bites for the outing and just like yesterday at Long Lake, I only caught the first one. She came out from under a dock along the northern shoreline and hit my weightless black Zoom trick worm on the fall at about 8:30pm. I reeled down, set the hook, and after a short fight brought her along side my kayak. As I guessed, the 2.5 to 3lber looked like she had swallowed the hook (it was a very light bite). I took my time getting the hook out without hurting the fish since she looked like she was full of eggs, but as soon as I had it out, she bucked in my hand, dropped in the water, and took off. I didn't think anything about it until few minutes later when I heard splash about 100ft behind me. It appeared to be my fish floundering around on the surface, so I headed over to see if she just needed to be revived a little. When I got about 40-50ft away, a bald eagle with about a 10ft wingspan came soaring over my shoulder, dropped down, and snatched up the fish! I kinda felt bad for the fish, as I was kinda the reason she got nabbed by the eagle, but it was a pretty awesome bit of nature to see and I figure that eagles got to eat, too. I got a couple more bites later on, but no more fish. I gave the evening one extra star, just for the eagle story. A nice night on the water.
