We hit Ohop Saturday in the late afternoon to see if the crappies were moving up yet. After checking 3 good holes we only hooked 2 largemouths and a few bluegills. The pads are not even up yet. Most years there would already be pad fields up and the crappies would be in the middle of spawn. Not this year. So we moved a bit off shore and starting fishing brush in 9-12 feet of water and started hitting fish...mostly females loaded with eggs. After about 3 hours we had caught about 30 or so. Most of them were from 9 to 11 inches but we only kept fish that were 10" or bigger. They should start to spawn soon as we did hook a couple of males in 5' of water...water temp was 65.1 to 67.2

Hey ya Slabking,
I believe that lakes' pads were intentially killed off 2 years ago. Homeowners didn't like all the pads....anyway good job on locating and catching those fish!!

HEY SLABKING, It is good to see a fellow crappie lover. That’s the main fish I fish for and about the only one I would eat. I haven’t fish Ohop for crappie in two years it seams. What were you catching them on? What part of the lake? Well I will have to go back and see. Just found out that crappies have stared at St. Clair. Anyway good job on catching those hard to find Crappie.

Hey guys,
All of those fish were caught on the north side of the lake. We used all white 1/32oz crappie jigs. Jigs with a yellow body/white tail worked good too. I tipped the jigs with berkley maggots.
