Got to American Lake this morning at 6:30 and there were about a dozen boats or so on the water. As usual, by the time I got to the north end of the lake, there was nobody catching any fish. There seems to be a lot of people fishing American Lake for kokanee, but not a lot of people who are having success catching them. I have been out on the lake 4 times in the last week, and have caught a limit of 10 kokanee each time( I have been fishing with another person each day). We were off the lake by 9:00. Contrary to popular belief, there are plenty of kokanee in the lake, and they are not hard to find. The News Tribune says that people are having trouble finding fish, this is a farce. They seem to be most predominant at the northern part of the lake, but can be found anywhere in the lake. The biggest mistake that I see other anglers making is that they are trolling at speeds that are too fast. Kokanee seem to bite the best when trolling at speeds that are between .9 and 1.3 miles per hour. So if you are having trouble hitting fish, try and slow down, I guarantee it will help. I hate seeing people not having success on a lake that is full of beautiful looking and extremely delicious eating fish. So good luck and GO SLOWER!!!

So...what are you trolling with? Wedding ring? Pop Gear? How deep? Any other info is most appreciated!

:-)

Tight lines!

Nice Report! Thanks for the tips, If you ever come across a small 10.6 Basstender stop and say hello, I'm out there quite a bit.

I have had no trouble either. Your right ,koks like it slow. I use a small dodger and hand tied small wedding ring or mini squid. Tie these up no more then 18 inches behind the dodger. You want a slow back and forth action. There are some better spots for koks on the lake but, they can be any place.

marksmith--- what kind of boat do you have? I have not seen anyone really catching any fish besides my boat and an old guy in a little sled. I gota nice old blue boat with closed bow and usually music playing.

I'm actually in a 17 foot bass tracker. I have a down rigger set up in it. I fooled around with bass fittin for awhile but I just can't resist going after kokes. Used to go out in a 14 foot smokercraft alaskan. I saw a green boat with kokanee king written on it. Is that you? It was in the 80s and 90s.
