I launched from the DNR boat ramp on the northwest end of the lake around 5pm and fished until 9pm. I concentrated on shorelines with rock, gravel or fallen timber. The fish were generally in a depth of 3 to 8 feet. Most were caught on a green or brown 3 inch tube jig worked along submerged structure. A senko caught some smaller fish as well. The first fish was a 3lb 4oz smallmouth...which was also the biggest fish of the evening. I landed several other smallmouth between 14-17" through the evening. I estimate that my total fish count was 15-20 smallmouth and one nice crappie. I was a bit surprised that I didn't encounter any largemouth on this trip. By this time last year, I was catching some 2-4lb largemouth. I think the fishing is a few weeks behind compared to last year.

Water temp: 60. Air temp: Around 80. Wind: Light out of the east. Sky: High thin clouds.

Word of warning: Since water levels have been very high on the Spokane River this spring, there is a lot of debris in the lake. Watch for floating logs. They are plentiful and sometimes hard to see.
