Drewp and I went out for smallies after work, and finished with a 2.5lb smallie and a perch. We only had 2 hours of day light, so we were jumping all over the lake. We mostly fished in 2-15ft of water around/under docks, and the only smallie came out of about 5ft of water near a submerged log on the east side of the lake. He hit my weightless kreature in watermelon color like a ton of bricks, and gave us a nice aerial show. I lost another one on a jointed bass rapala. Water temperature was 68 in the shallow parts and 66 in the deeper areas.

There is a true art to taking pictures that cool. I learned this technique from my French film school instructor - it's called the dirty lens technique.

Nice smallmouth! I've been waiting for the water to warm up at Stevens and it sounds like it's time to give it another try.

Perch fishing can be very good @ Stevens when it's hot outside. Last August I was fishing for smallies and couldn't keep the perch away from my wally diver. They weren't little perch either -- lots of slabs. They are great eating but don't fight nearly as hard as smallies...
