I went out to Greenlake at 6:00 am this morning. Beautiful sunrise, water like glass. I was fishing from my float tube. Fish were active on the surface everywhere. Usually I do well here with a nightcrawler under a bobber, I had two bites within a few minutes, and then not another interaction for 3 hours. All the while the trout and carp were crazy on the surface. If you came out here with a fly rod from a float tube and some dry flies you'd do well. I put in on the west side about 65th street, went out to the middle and then circled the island and came back along the west bank.
saw one other father/son combo in a boat fishing under bobbers also, but saw no fish hooked.
The pleasure of the morning was as I was sitting still in the float tube... I've got some new polarized glasses..... I saw the biggest carp I've ever seen just cruise slowly right about 8' from my tube. He was every bit as big as a salmon. Saw his whole body. No exaggeration. Then I had a large trout maybe 2lbs that was just again, cruising along side of me and showing himself well.

I haven't fished Green Lake in 25 years. Sounds like you had a fun trip. I use to cast a fly off the docks where the old theatre is and knock em dead. My dad grew up fishing Green lake and at age 75 walks the lake every morning. He bought a license this year but hasn't gone, but talks about going one day soon. I hope he does. He tells me he sees the same old timers at the lake every morning and most of the time they have a few each using bait either under a bobber or on the bottom. Anyway, sorry to ramble. Just brought back a memory which you seem to be doing allot lately fishing all the lakes I use to fish as a boy. There is a spot just west of Spuds Fish and Chips that my dad fished as a boy and I fished often growing up. There is a metal box on the shore line that I believe is or use to be a water inlet to the lake. I caught lots fish there all the time, especially in the summer evenings using a worm under a bobber. Thanks for the report Chris.

Sorry about the 3 star rating folks... When you write the lake report, it defaults to 3 stars, so I sometimes forget to rate it myself. I would have given it a 1 star just in keeping with the rules as per no fish caught.

When i've taken my fly rod to green lake, i've found the evening bite to be a little better than the morning bite. There's something about that last hour of light that works so well with caddis flies. Enjoy it while you still can. Another week of weather like this and those trout are gonna get scarse. GL
