I don't know why I keep going back to Eloika but I do. Bluebird sky, calm wind, warm water temps and endless weeds. I started fishing at about 6:00 AM with purple worms. I would cast onto the lilly pads and walk the bait across the pads till I got to the water. Then I would let it drop into the water. No takes all day. I used my electric trolling motor to get around for about 2 hours, then the weeds completely zapped by battery of any energy. So I rowed the rest of the time. I even tried some top water with a Pop-R. No luck. I talked to one fellow who was using a light green and white spinner bait. He had only caught two by noon. That would have been great for me, but I got SKUNKED! I don't know why I keep going back, but I do. I just like the lake I guess.

Lotech,
I hear ya man. I have given up on it. Unless I find a guide looking for a seat in a boat I wont be back. I have caught fish (mostly bass) everywhere else I have gone. Mostly Long Lake cause I know the spots now. I have tried everything I have that works shallow and or weedless, and like you have gotten nothing. A few nibbles on the worm the last time out, thats it. And of ALL the other boats I saw out there, I NEVER saw a fish pulled in. They must be sneaky in gettin them in the net. That lake is way overgrown with grass. But, I know there is a way to get em, I just havent figured out how yet. Good luck to you though. I have moved onto Diamond. Now, that is one BEAUTIFULL lake. And I even found a few smb and panfish.

I'll be posting a few minutes from now, but guys, your just toooooo late for Elokia this season. The water is down for the summer and there is only about 6" of water in the dollar pads. The water temperature at 0530 today was 74 degrees. I saw one good bass lost on a buzz bait just about the time the sun hit the water, an I saw two caught on a top water jerk style bait (one pretty nice), but for the most part the bass have gone deep. The bass can be caught at night, very early, or very late with noisy top water, but right now it is probably a better perch lake and to some extent crappie. Check back in early October, and next year in mid May for the Bass.

Joe-
Mike and I will be heading out to Chapman for some bass in a couple of weeks when he gets back from Alaska. You will have to stay up past your bedtime though ;-). There are some good LMB out there and tons of smallies. Give me a call.
