Fished Deer Lake for the first time. Found the launch to be shallow for a good distance out but passable. Trolled off a downrigger using a 50/50 Dick Nite --trolling in 71-72 feet of water at 65 feet deep/slow. Caught 2 Mackinaw between 7 and 7:15 A.M. and two more from 10-10:15 A.M. Only about 3 boats out on the lake. We were the only ones fishing in deep water, think. Using an ultra-light trout pole made catching the 2-4# fish a lot of fun. Calm and getting really warm. Quit at around noon. Don't know if you could launch in the fall subject to the water level, but I think it could make a nice trip.
