Went to Banks this weekend for vacation with some friends and took along some gear. Got out on the water Sat. morning at 5:30am and fished until 8:30am. Hit up a couple of points along the rocky banks as the sun came up on another beautiful day. Tried mostly D-Shotn' a sand Sniper Snub. Ended up catching 3 smallies and missing 1. Had a lot of bites but they were mostly small fish.
Great lake. If I had more time and had been on a bass boat I would have Cranked a little in the 7-10ft range and maybe tossed some plastics for largies in the reeds. I did toss out a jig for a little bit but it did not pay off. Saw a ton of carp in the weedy shallows breaking the water. Gets you pretty excited until you realize whats making all the commotion.
I would say the best bite is going to be daybreak and night fall right now. Fish the rocky points and bays. Try outside the weedlines in the shallows and cast up into those reeds for Largies. This lake is definitely a numbers lake but I wouldn't put it past it to have a lot of big fish potential. I hope to get back out on Banks in the future with more time to do some serious damage and a chance to hunt down some large fish.
