8/18/2008 8:33:00 PMI never knew there were bass there until i read this thing about the lake by the state, I got curious about it when i got back from fishing at Neah Bay one time and googled it. When it said there were bass i just though there would be a small amount, and they would be small, but i guess not. Good luck next time out there.

8/19/2008 6:42:00 AMI went camping there when I was a kid. My Dad and I caught some trout and had them for dinner. But when we went to bed we forgot to clean our plates. So just after we turned out the lights in the tent Mr. Bear comes walking into camp to clean up for us. After checking for scraps he decided to check out the tent. We were lucky he only walked up and sniffed around the tent, but that is not a good feeling at all. It was a very exciting trip, but the fishing was not very good for anybody that went that week. That was a long time ago (1989) so hopefully the lake has gotten better with time.

8/19/2008 6:51:00 AMI have fished that beautiful, big lake a few times and caught some nice yellow perch. I have also seen many racoons and deer in the campground but no bears. For hikers, there is a couple of nice trails out to the ocean beach that make a nice day hike.

8/19/2008 7:09:00 AMThanks for the report on lake Ozette. I too spent some years there as a kid. It is the strangest thing to this day for me, that nobody you talk to knows of Lake Ozette, I mean it is a HUGE lake. It is such a beautiful area, I would call it one of the most remote areas on the West side of the mountains. and yes there are a lot of bears in this area, especially along the ocean beach. If you go back you HAVE to walk the boardwalk trail to the ocean, stunning beach.

8/19/2008 7:11:00 AMOne other thing. Kevinb.... Whenever I look at your posts, I see that you are fishing all over the freakin' state. Is that the bennies of being a fireman,, i.e. work like 4 days x 24 hours, and then hit the road to fish for 3 weeks?

8/19/2008 8:47:00 AMI haven't been there since I was a kid in scouts. We hiked trail/boardwalk (Cape Alava/Sand Point Loop) and camped on the beach. I remember lots of raccoons, drinking water that looked like tea even after it went through the filter, and seeing people hiking in with their gear in wheelbarrows. I need to go back there; it's just such a long drive.

8/19/2008 8:06:00 PMI really like this lake. I have fished it a few times and caught lots of squawfish and peamouth chub. I also caught some cutthroat, perch, and bass.

We backpacked around part of Ozette and then hit the boardwalk to the coast, where we camped on the beach for 2 days. Beautiful, beautiful area. We had deer walking thru our camp and bald eagles mating in the trees above us (by the way, the male does all the screaming -- sheesh what a racket!!).
I was curious about the fishing, I'm glad to see some chatter about it. I thought I heard that this lake rose & fell with the tides, so it would not surprise me if there are sea-run fish in there.
