Got on the water around 7am at the state park. Launched my kayak and started working the west side but due to the bright sun on the water, I peddled back to the shady east shoreline. I wasn't having much action until I hit a dock just north of the launch area. I was using a watermelon Sweet Beaver with a sliding bullet sinker and dropped it next to a piling. As it sank, it suddenly stopped and began to move away. I gave it a few seconds, then set the hook. After about five minutes, I lipped a nice 17" smallie. After releasing it, I headed south of the launch area and began working the docks. I had switched to a 1/4 oz. jig/worm combo and after a long cast and sink, I began retrieving with a twitching action. As my bait came into view at about six feet under the surface, a huge smallie appeared from the depths chasing it. I stopped my retrieve, the smallie smacked the lure, and a few minutes later, I lipped a beautiful 19"er. Two huge fish in one morning was more than I could hope for! Will be back as soon as I can figure a way to mount my fishfinder onto my kayak.
