Went to Kellog EARLY Saturday morning with the pontoon. Lots of small bass, but I still had a blast. Found the best places were behind the old beaver dams. Tossed a texas rigged Gary Yamamoto twin tailed skirted grub . They weren't shy when they took the bait! Fishing was great until the sun hit the water then it was like someone turned off the light switch. That lake is crystal clear, you can see probably 15 feet down which really surprised me but was nice to see.

Also had my flyrod with so I thought I'd give the cuts a try. I paddled by pontoon up to a beaver dam and toss an olive wooly bugger into the weed free area behind the dam. Caught about 10 cuts and one that I think was a brookie. Most cuts were 8 to 10 inches but I did catch one nice cut that went about 15 inches. All were released.

Next time try your fly rod on those bass, what a treat! I haven't been up there in 2-3 years. Can you get your pontoon over the beaver dam into the main part of the lake?

I did catch a couple of bass on the fly rod using a deer hair popper, nice takes for small guys. You can get a pontoon over the main lake dam, it's submerged but it's not bad, just watch your footing. In fact saw 2 other boats (10 to 12 foot aluminums) get pulled over the dam too. Found a new dam up one of the arms to the right of the main lake that is holding back about 2 feet of water over the main lake level. That's where I had the best luck with the cuts. Had to go over 2 or 3 other submerged dams to get there.

Nice to hear a report on Kellogg. I fished it a few times years ago and caught several bass up to about 2 pounds and a few cutthroat. Caught both bass and cutthroat on floating Rapalas. Hooked the bigger bass on black jigs. Nice secluded, quite area. I will probably never fish it again so how about taking your camera next time and send Mike some photos for the lake index. Tight lines, BJ

I'll definately bring the camera next time. Had a great "kodak monent" watching an otter on a log eating a crawdad.

My Kodak moment on that lake was sitting in the pond farthest back to the right. A damsel fly nymph crawled up on my flipper, shucked it's shell and unfolded it's wings. It sunned itself for a few minutes, then took off. First time I've ever witnessed the process. It's one of my favorite lakes, a real gem that I don't get out to often enough.

I play R&B, classic rock and blues. Check out www.bigdogrevue.com
