I went back to Lake Serene in my float tube Sunday evening. This is a real quiet lake at least in my experience here. There was no one on the water. Fished for about 2 hours. I always use my go to crainkbaits. Rattletraps, and some kind of deep diving bulbous looking thing, (sorry).
Usually the silver rattletrap is a sure thing. But it was kinda cool to see how you can work your way through your tackle..... and then all of the sudden, BAM. You find the ticket. I'm sorry I can't remember what this specific crainkbait is called, but the pic. I will add is the style. The one I used was a crawfish color and image. Anyway, I through on the so mentioned lure, and BAM, boated a fish on the first cast. Lost a fish on the second cast, and about 5 casts later I caught a second fish. Both were just under 1lb.
As I get more into bass fishing it is so hard to pull away from crainkbaits, I know that people swear by senkos, drop shotting etc. But I must need to perfect that sort of technique or something.

Don't shy away from a bait that works. Build your comfort lures, and then expand.

One thing to consider also, and much more important in Bass fishing is not what type of lure you were using, but rather where and what pattern were the fish? All of a point on a shore line, under some branches, over a sunken log....that type of stuff is WAY more important than the lure. So...if you are comfortable throwing cranks (I love em too) keep doing it, but focus on the when and how.

Try a floating rapala minnow, and just twitch it on the surface around some structure. As easy to cast as a crank, and sometimes more effective.
