Hit the lake this morning with my neighbor around 9:00am and fished until 3:00pm. Fishing was slow and the winds out of the North didn't make it easy, the surface temps were right around 59 degrees. We started off using my standard rig with spoons. The first two fish to the boat came around 10:00am on the North end of Mercer Island, lost another after about a 45 second battle and then what ever bite there was disappeared. One was a cutt of 18" and the other was a perch of 12" and all were were hooked 45' down. Tried fishing the choppy side of the I-90 bridge and after being tossed around on our first pass decided to try the calm (South) side. We started to experiment with different rigs and made several passes which did not yield any fish but I did have one take down on my flasher and mini squid rig and gave me hope. We decided on trolling back to the launch and when reaching Faben Point, had a double hookup. His was another 12" perch and mine was a very chunky 19" cutt on my mini squid and flasher combo. So, I learned a couple of things today. First, the perch are down at 40' to 45'. Second, the cutts will take a mini squid and are not flasher shy. Note: Most of the cutts I have caught in this lake had soft, pale meat that was best when smoked. However, the last cutt caught had some really good looking meat, a very deep orange color that I'll have to try out on the barbie. I'll be out again tomorrow and see if the Coho fishing has improved around Hunt's Point.

G man I appreciate your posts! Overall, you seem to be somewhat "dialed in". I went out today, Sat. and after hearing about the slow trout fishing from the guys that werre comeing in, we switched to perch and had a blast. Therer was a pretty good fisherman who wrote some articles about 13 yearsw ago who fished fly's really fast and did well on big bows and cutts. I doubt he used a flasher at his speeds (around 5 mph.) Anyway interesting to hear you tried a mini flasher.

Right on still out there slaying them nice job my boy and I will be out sunday afternoon , any luck on the coho , thought ill give it another try to , its been about 3 weeks since last time out to lake wa. so let us know how it went for the coho .Thanks for the report again. Any luck on the rivers ? thats what we been hiting up when we have time and still no luck there either. Been fishing the green , the lower and top part from auburn 277th down to 1st ave bridge.

Snake, I haven't hit the rivers just yet. I'll probably make a trip out to the Grays Harbor area in the next couple of weeks and hit the Humpy, Satsop or the Chehalis.

SlimySlab, as for fishing a fly at high speeds, if you use the right flasher it can be done. The Shasta Sling Blade is designed to be trolled at a faster pace than regular dodgers and flashers. One can also use a wiggle disk and I will be giving it a try later in the year once the fish start to cruise the shallows.

I have fished the Wallace with mixed results... excellent Tuesday afternoon, so-so on Wednesday, bad on Thurday and slow but possible on Friday. Now my vacation is over and I'll be able to fish only Saturdays... Yesterday (Saturday) I did not fish because I was smoking some of my catch. Lots of dark fish mixed with brights in between (50-50).
