I enjoyed a gorgeous afternoon on little Bonney Lake this afternoon.
I shared the lake with a guy feeding ducks with his two year old daughter at the WDFW access, three guys in pontoons, and three guys in a little 10' row boat.
There were some sporadic rises and swarms of chironomids coming off the water. After trolling around some wooley buggers and the like to no avail, I switched over to an oversized chironomid pattern. I got six short strikes, but I think they were just coming to look as I never got a hookset. I switched over to a smaller dark emerger pattern (size 18) and that was the ticket. Good, solid takes - three little 8-9" fish bang-bang-bang.
They've changed the access road to Bonney Lake, now it's one-way all the way around, so you have to drive clear around the lake to get to the access point.
It's such a nice little lake, please consider catch and release so we can enjoy this close to home fishery longer into the summer.
