After trying to get to Lake Tapps in the morning (originally wanted Tiger Muskie) we wound up deciding to hit lake Stevens because it was 3 pm (this started at 8am). Launched on the west side boat launch and in the water by 3:45. It was cloudy out but no real wind and the rain really never happened just some sprinkles. We were throwing some top water and rattle baits for the bass with no luck, we did notice though every once in a while a fish would surface in the area so after about a half hour of no luck bass fishing we went trolling for the obvious trout that were rising all over the place. BAMM in 5 minutes I had two strikes and then FISH ON!!!! First fish landed was a 16" rainbow, beautiful fish thought I had snagged the bottom. By that point the fish were surfacing everywhere and the bite was on. All and all I caught another 6 trout and my buddy caught 7 for a total of 14. All of them after the first catch were about 7-9" with my buddy catching one 12". This happened in about 3 and 1/2 hours and we fished till the sun went down (thanks to the park ranger who waited for us to get off the lake before closing the boat ramp gate). All fish were successfully released.

Sweet! Stevens is a great alternative now that the ski boats have disappeared for the season. (Except for the hard-core skiers. Dang wet suites...)

Good luck finding the bass on Stevens. I have not had time to fish much this year, but I got skunked for bass the last few times out. Fortunately, there's always an alternative. Trolling small crankbaits will attract perch -- and many of them are bigguns. (Good eating!)

For people who don't mind dropping anchor, powerbait and nightcrawlers work great along the ridges.
