Well, the weekend is over and all is great. The fishing on Rufus the past few days was great as usual but the catching was slower Saturday .

Friday we could not keep the fish off our hooks. The three of us onboard spent the day catching and mostly releasing at least 40 fish. We spent most of the morning trolling along the “Can Line” near the dam and finished the day pitching spoons toward the southern bank between pump casings#1 and #2. Most of the fish caught while pitching spoons were hooked no more than 5 feet from the bank. Our largest fish for the day top the scale at 7 1/4 pounds and we managed to keep 5 more fish between 2 and 5 1/2 pounds. All of our big fish were caught trolling!

Saturday was another story. We started by running up to the banks between casings #1 and #2 and only had marginal luck. Then, not wanting to waste time, we ran back to the “Can Line” and once again started trolling using the same gear as yesterday. Unlike the day before the fish had dropped in the water column to the 25-foot level. We only managed to catch 4 fish worth keeping. We did catch throughout the day but most were small considering we were fishing Rufus.

There were two other boats in our party and they did about as well. They spent most of their time trolling along the right bank looking upstream between the “Cans” and pump casing #1.

One happy looking "Grandson" , and a nice fishing camp. Love to see those youngsters have a chance at the "real" world.

Did you guys try fishing right off the docks at the State Park? We knocked them dead at the dock, better than in the lake in the boat.

Normally I am not a fan of smoked trout but there is one exception - Rufus! Rufus trout's thick fat lawyer just below the skin and the deep orange/red meat makes for some awsome smoked fish. Make sure you remember the smoker if your headed that way.

ok great! Is the bank fishing any good there at Rufus? I am headed that way in January with about 5 other guys for a guys fishing trip and we dont have a boat.

The bank fishing is fantastic. The most popular areas are the net pens, Corp launch area Cheif Joe Dam, and points along the road from the Corp launch up to about the first pump casing on the river. There are other areas but I don't know how to get to them. There are a few "locals" that fish Rufus. I suggest your question be directed thoward the whole forum. I am sure you will get some good quality info as to where and how.

Does anyone know if there is a place to hook up a RV to power this time of year in or around Bridgeport? I want to head up for a couple of days of fishing and thought if I could plug in the trailer I could avoid a hotel... If not what about hotels? Thanks!
