Another fine day on Rufus Woods.
The day broke clear and sunny AND COLD.
Waited until temp was approaching 10 or so the hooked up the boat and headed to RW.
When we arrived at the launch (Chief Joe), the parking spaces were full with some rigs in the upper lot. What a hardy bunch of fishermen/duck hunters. We fished the lower miles of the lake and caught several fish in the 4-5 pound range and some 10-12 inchers. We caught most of them on the B-2 squid rigged on a jig ,fished in the shallows. The two trout we kept were full of snails, and pulling the squid through the weeds was productive today. One of the trout was 22 inches long and full finnage, not a tripp. weighed in at 4# 12 oz. the other a 3 pounder.
we spent a couple hours fishing the cabin hole (greatest catch rate, the hit the area below Pump #3 and along the tribal shoreline down from there.
We took out earlier than usual as the day was nice and we had fish for George (foreman grill that is). The launch was well sanded and with caution, no problem. Always carry the shovel.
Good fishing to all that venture out, and stay safe

I've caught several trout that were not triploids out of RW. It's good to see some of those natives are getting large. Someone told me that they are natives from the Spokane river. In any case, I hope you let the non tripploids go. Good fishing. I wish I could be closer to RW but instead i anxiously await for when the weather will allow me to go. Good luck.

steelhead64389:
Since the weather (& water temps) has cooled down we seem to catch more natives than we did in the warmer months. They sure are full of fight in the colder water, and we use ultra light gear so the experience is enhanced. They are beautiful fish, and when C&R is practiced they have a chance to grow into impressive fighters.
A resource well worth maintaining.

Hey ya troutpro
One nice thing about Rufus is the chance of catching fish is relatively high. As with anywhere, there will be days where the bite is slow.
Look forward to seeing a report in the future when you make the trip over.
Good luck with your fishing adventures

Is the cabin hole you talked about near the CabinByTheRiver that you can rent??

Hey ya jackbauer
The Cabinbythe River is farther upstream from the mentioned "cabin hole".
The "fishin" cabin hole is about 8-10 miles upriver from chief joe launch area on the right side of the river. It is a slight indentation in the shoreline (pseudo bay), and will hold fish at times. "There is a "fallen down" cabin (difficult to see) back up a draw there, hence the name.
Good luck fishin

Thanks BluFin.... I certainly do enjoy the fact that you post your reports and are helpful to everyone who read this blog. I hope to see you out there some time. i'll probably be out there this weekend if I can get by the flooding here on the west side. Rufus Woods is a truly extraordinary place and is unique! Hopefully, I ill tie into some of the bigger guys.

To steelhead64389 and all you folks on the "west side", be safe and use caution in the questionable areas due to the flooding.
