Hello everyone
I've had several inquires on how we use the squid.
We just slide the body on a jig and go for it. We prefer a 1/16 oz jig head, and it is sometimes difficult to find a hook big enough to fit the squid, but we used from a #1 through a #2/0 with good results. For us the key is slow and fish deep. light twitches on the rod or slow jigging retrieve. Just be creative, as they say "different strokes for different folks".
The surprising thing is we will catch 10-12 inchers on occasion.
Tight lines everyone.

Thank you for the great reports. Spent the weekend out there and members of our fishing party where helped out with the fishing by you. As usual, I was in the other boat and they where tight lipped...just kidding. Had a great time and we caught fish. Looking forward to returning. Thanks again. Danny

I hope they had fun out there. They were putting in their time at it and I saw them hook into a nice one as we were leaving.
It's a great place to spend the day/week-end.
How was the overall experience?

Hey Everyone, When you use the jig set-up, be sure to pinch the barbs down.
Just rigging these for the post, I didn't do so, but when fishing it is best to pinch them down.
Thanks to all who respect the great outdoors and work at maintaining a valuable resource.

Hey blufin, it was great to meet you and thanks for the pointers on the water. We used the squid plastics you gave us and they worked awsome. pulled in a 6 pounder on Friday afternoon and with your squid, snagged a 7pounder. Was surprised that the 7 pounder was real lean on the bottem side. Can't wait to cook that baby.

Again thanks for the help and hope to see you again out there. If anyone sees blufin out on the water, ask him what is working, or ask his wife, she was just nailing 'em out there Saturday!! :)

Likewise jackbauer,
Sounds like it was an acceptable trip for your gang. Glad to be of assistance. I was able to get some pretty good pics of a cool looking boat, with fish being caught that day. Shoot me an email so I'd have an addie to send them to, and I'll Send them your way.
I like to take my wife fishing because she makes the boat look good. She enjoyed the banter, you guys were awesome.
Also, would like to see a post detailing your trip, including you impression of the place you guys put up for the week-end if you would. It Would make an interesting read for the members.
My email is lleonard@nwi.net

blufin hope to fish both wensday and thrusday. wasgoing to try and launch from just below the lower pen if we can get into that area. other wise will be at the upper pens. have not been able to find that small B2 jig yet.
have done good with the PW just threaded on the hook and drifting, also at the upper pens will back bounce it out in the middle of the river on that shallow reef/table top area.

havnfun, have ya ever picked up any walleye off the shallow reef/table top area. We have "Randomly" picked up wallys fishing for the tripps, but when we target them in RW we don't do well.
If ya don't have any, pick up some black marabou jigs in the 1/16 or 1/8 oz weight. These have picked up a lot of tripps, and are easy to fish. Slow and easy seems to do the trick right now, with a little twitch once in a while to liven it up a bit. Line weight seems to be important also. Go with a lighter line if your comfortable doing so.
What boat ya floatin, I'll keep an eye out

That sounds like it should be a killer, will have to try it with different lures. putting a fly/lure on the line off the 3-way swivel would give it great action.
Thanks for the info. I may put some extra petro in the boat and head up to the upper pens if we don't see ya lower, hate to haul around an extra tank.
If ya see a aluminum BluFin/Spectrum sterndrive with a Yamaha kicker on it, give us a yell. Always enjoy swapping a few tales.
Be safe out there

Blufin hope to get the boat in the water at the launch just below the lower pens if the snow will let me in.
have been unable to find that smal B2 squid have checked sportco and joe's but no luck. sounds like fun watching the grass part as the fish hunts down the squid.

Blufin Loui,
Any other color other than the Motor Oil work? Are you using the Three inch B-2's? I have a friend stopping by Sportmans on Thursday to pick up this rig for our trip this coming weekend.

Blufin.... I was on the boat with jackbauer and others this weekend. It was good meetin and getting tips from you and the missus. We are all real fortunate that we can get together on the water and off the water on the WL.com to share tips and stories. Good luck in the future and if you see that black and gray boat on the RW again give me a yell.

We've tried the chartreuse, triple glow green, fluorescence orange, clear/ blue flake, root beer, and motor oil. so far the rootbeer, and motor have been the most consistant. Ran out of these and waiting on more.

zaskar.. you're spot on about being fortunate. Just observing the posts and banter here on the site, you can see camaraderie that is so positive to see. It's does a body good.
Likewise man, don't hesitate to slide over for some fat chewing if you see us on the water. Was fantastic meeting you guys and watching ya catch fish.
Good luck with your outings

Just a little reminder, we'd like to keep the report forms for actual fishing reports. Posts like this are better off in either the forum or as a comment under a previous report. The reason for this is the report statistics we are generating get skewed from non-reports that get posted into the reports. Not that we don't appreciate the info blufin loui! Thanks for understanding, Mike
